Es Licenciado y Master en Humanidades de la Australian National University, DEA de la Université Paris VII Denis Diderot, y Dr. en Filosofía por la University of Warwick. Sus principales áreas de interés son la filosofía antigua, la filosofía alemana del siglo XX y la relación entre filosofía e historia del arte. Es editor de los Walter Benjamin Studies (Bloomsbury) y de los Philosophical Projections (Rowman and Littlefield International).

Ocupa actualmente dos cargos académicos: es Profesor distinguido de Filosofía y Humanidades en la Kingston University (Londres) y Profesor de Filosofía y pensamiento judío en el Departamento de Filosofía y en el “Centro australiano para la cultura judía” en la Monash University (Australia). El Professor Benjamin se ha desenvuelto además en el campo de la arquitectura, enseñando también en varias escuelas de arquitectura en Inglaterra, Estados Unidos y Australia.
